Question Truck stutters in 4-wheel drive

I have a 1998 F150 XL. I've noticed that when ever it's in 4-wheel drive mode, the truck stutters and almosts stops whenever I make a turn or deep turn. Does anyone have any ideas of what's going on?

well, sounds to me like you are driving with 4x4 engaged on dry pavement....a big no no!!

if i'm right, then there is nothing wrong with your truck...

Not really, I live in the Midwest and we've had quite a bit of snow. It kinda jerks and stutters. This is my first 4-wheel drive truck, and this is new to me. So, you can't engage 4-wheel drive on dry pavement?

well, part time 4x4 systems like the one on your truck do not have a center differential. therefore when you are on dry pavement and make a turn, the powertrain can't compensate for the front wheels turning at different speeds and therefore you get binding when 4x4 is engaged. you won't notice this much when driving on slick pavement. the binding of the powertrain can be hard on it...so if possible avoid driving in 4x4 on dry pavement...especially if you are making alot of turns...
