Fluid change
Fluid change
I did the fluid change today on my 97 4R70W today.I drained 12 quarts from the converter and pan and added a plug kit to the pan.I couldnt do the flush thru the lines due to not being able to find clear hose.Anyway,I added 6quarts then started the motor and ran the gears park thru low1.I noticed a little smoke coming from the dipstick tube and could hear the fluid gurgling in the tranny.Added the remainder 6quarts and she runs like a charm.Just the smoke thing has me curious.....any ideas?
My best guess is that when it had only 6 qts in it, you ran the pan dry and it was getting hot. After you added the other 6 qts, it filled up the pan and was not sucking air anymore........
You would be amazed at how much fluid pumps through the system in a matter of seconds....... You probably went through those first 6 qts in just a couple seconds which would have filled the TC, but left the pan dry.
I doubt you hurt anything, but in the future, you might want to be pouring the remaining qts in the tube right after you start the motor.
