I curious, Is it very difficult to replace the U-joint on my 97 F150 SCAB? I've got the 4.6 V-8, ORP, With trans, and oil cooler. My brother-in-law's Chevy has me thinking. His u-joint seized up and costed him a new trans. I checked to see if I could lubricate mine and there are no zerk fittings. Is replacing the U-joint something that someone with slightly above average mechanical skills (that being me) can do or should I take it in and have it done?

I just did the second one last weekend. Same year and engine. It is pretty simple. You need to use a large socket to drive out the old caps. I used a C-clamp to put the new caps on. The only thing I did wrong is I wasn't careful when putting on one of the caps and I crimped one of the roller bearings and had to buy a new U-joint. Make sure the one you buy has the zerk. The parts supplier I went to had both.
Didn't know they made a "97 F150 SCREW"........
So, I think it would be very hard to change anything on one!!
Just giving you a bad time....... You probably have what is called the Super Cab. The Super Crew is the full 4 door with the 5' bed. I think the first ones came out in 2000
Like was said before, the hardest part is driving out the old and driving in the new caps.
You will need one of those 'star' type of sockets to remove the bolts from the rear pinion shaft. I don't recall the size, but a regular socket will not work.

I do have a complete set of Torx sockets, so I believe I should be set. Thanks for the info and the correction
