Strange clicking noise when braking.

I bought an automatic 2000 F 150 with the V8 Triton engine and love the truck. I've owned it for a year now and have experienced no problems until this month. Its got 52k miles. I'm not sure if its a problem at all but I hear something like a clicking noise or gear slack in my transmission when i'm braking into a complete stop. It shifts up smoothly, but it clicks when shifting down. (In the second gear I believe) I have never noticed this noise before but maybe I was listening to my music too loud. It is becoming an annoyance and would love some input from some professionals. Should I have it serviced? Should I flush the transmission? How much does a new tranny cost anyways?

A mechanic I spoke to said that its probably just the winter and the combination of ice and salt in the transmission pan. Anyone have any ideas?

I wish I could help you, but I haven't got any idea of what is wrong how how to fix it. I just popped in to tell you the following:

#1 Find a new mechanic! If you have ice and salt in the tranny pan then you have MEGA problems!

#2 You don't wanna even think about the cost of a new tranny.

Good luck.

Thanks Medic.

Yeah I figure the tech didn't know what he was talking about. I'm still a little worried about this click I hear in the transmission. It doesn't happen all the time but when its really cold I guess. I'm hoping its just a cold thing. If anyone else can add some input I'd appreciate it. Thanks Medic.
