Need Help Fast

Today I installed the TransGo shift kit in my 4R70W, and after a whole day of working on it, I take it out for a test srive and I have no 3rd gear or overdrive, it just stays in 2nd. Doesn anyone have any solution or an idea at all of what the problem is?

Do you have reverse and first gear? Are you sure that you connected the wiring harness back together properly? And did all of the new valves go in smoothly? Hopefully we can figure this out.

The gears that work fine are park, Reverse, Nuetral, 2, 1. If you put it in D/OD, it will work fine, it just wont go into 3rd. If you manually put it in 1st, it works, shift it to second it works, throw it into drive, nothing. I installed all the wires correctly, I mean they were only so long, so they basically went back in the same spots. Those are right, I am sure of that. All the valves went in smootly, the only thing I can think is that he 2-3 valve might be in backwards, that is the only thing I can see being wrong. Also it wont go into overdrive, but that is probably related to the 3rd gear thing, and when you get to like 40mph and let off, it goes into nuetral, and will just rev up. When it slows down, it will downshift back into 2nd and stay in second. But on the plus side, the 1-2 WOT upshift is very nice, I grannied it around, but when my dad took it out, he put a beating on it, to see if it would jolt something into place.

As much as I hate to say it, the only way to remove all doubt about the installation is to go back through the valve body again to make sure everything is fine. It does seem that a valve is either sticking, or isn't inserted properly. I know that Transgo support is not there on weekends, but I know that if you described your symptoms to them they would know the fix right off of the bat. Wish I could help you more though. I am sure that you need your ride on Monday.

Also the 2nd accumulator, it doesnt have a snap ring to hold it in place, it just has like 3 metal clips thta stick out that hold it in the cylinder, how far up do you put it?

There was not a snap ring when you took in apart? I don't think I have seen one without it? Either way, there should be a groove up in the hole where the accumulator goes to hold the clips in place. I had to put a little pressure on the springs in order to get it done. Also, did you reset your computer as suggested in a reply to your post in the other forum?

I reset the computer, nothing. Me and my dad took it apart today, and check and check and check everything, and everything was installed perfectly. I took it for a test drive it went into 3rd, turned a corner, it went into 3rd. Was stopped at a light, and when I started to go, same problem it held 2nd gear and then would jump into neutral above 40 if you were just sustaining that speed, if you punched it, it would hold 2nd till like 75, I didnt want to hit the rev limited. Me and my dad think it is that damn EPS pressure thingy and when the pressure builds up to go into 3rd, it blows that pressure valve. I am going to call TransGo tomorrow. Nothing I ever do works out right EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW what time is transGo open till central time?

Worse Case Scenario

Beastie,

If worse comes to worse I have a valve body from my 97 4R70W. I replaced it with a PA valve body. It's been sitting in the garage for a month or two all wrapped up. Let me kow if you need it. e-mail me through my profile.

Just give me an e-mail if you need it and I'll ship it out, ASAP. One other possibility I was thinking of. Do you have a chip? If so you may want to disconnect your battery and take the chip out. Then reconnect it. Maybe the chip shift charecteristics are interfering. I had to take mine out when i did the valve body upgrade, it shifted much better afterward.

Also did you torque the bolts to the correct spec in in-lbs.? That could make a difference.

I know what you mean about feeling cursed. I often feel the same when attempting projects.........so if you need it it's yours.

Got in touch with them, and the 2 guys I spole to gave me a few suggestions, but nothing that fixed the problem. If I drive slow I have 3rd gear, but anytime I get above 3500rpms in 1st gear, I loose it. I am going to tackle it again on Friday.

Coem to find out, 1 bolt was broke off in there, and 1 was missing, so I pulled out the broken one, and replace it, and replaced the one missing, and now I have 1st-3rd gear anytime, never loose any of them, but when I try to go into overdrive, it goes into neutral. I have heard that maybe my shift solenoids are bad, could this be it, I am stumped.
