Cool 4R70W Drain Plug Install

Have any of you guys installed a drain plug in your tranny pan ?

I'm installing a Transgo S/K this weekend and want to put a drain plug in as well.

I have one of the B&M drain plug kits, but I am a little concerned about it leaking afterwards (I'm a little **** about stuff like that).

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

I installed the B&M in my 4R70W a couple of months ago, and I have had no leaks. I just drilled the 1/2" hole in the pan and filed the burrs off. The most important thing is to use the correct torque. Can't remember what the numbers were, but it tells you on the back of the package of the draing plug. Hope this helps.

It's not complicated at all. I put the plastic washer on the outside and it doesn't leak. You also don't want to put the plug in the bottom of the pan because road debris could knock it off. Where I installed mine, it sits right above the base of the pan as well as the transmission cross member, where it' safe.

Cool

radjks & AjRagno -

Thanks for the speedy reply. Good to hear you haven't had any leaks.

Aj - I was actually planning on installing it right where you said to. My mom always used to say "Great minds think alike".

Seriously, thanks for including the pics.

I'm sure you guys will be cleaner than I am today !!

Thats where I put mine too.

However I bought that cheap Help! drain plug which sucks. The install was fine and the large nut and bolt do not leak but the little plug, which is just a 1/4" bolt and O ring, leaks like a siv. Once you tighten the plug, the O ring squashes and rips apart. I need to get a small polypropylene gasket instead.

The drain plug is a great idea. Although you need to remove the pan to replace the filter and clean the magnet, the drain plug then allows you to refill/drain the tranny oil enough times to have all new oil in the system without the awful mess of having to remove the pan every time.

I ordered my B&M drain plug today.

make sure your alright about the location....

then use a small drill as a pilot hole then the larger...theres nothing more frustrating than a wandering drill
