Angry Slave cylinder

I was wondering how many of you with the manual 5 speed have had to replace the slave cylinder?

For those of you that have had to have this done, was it covered by the extended warranty?

My reason for asking:
Yesterday I had to go trailer my brother-in-laws truck over a hundre miles to get it near home for a local mech to fix. His clutch failed on him last Friday, he had it towed to the nearest dealer for repair. The dealer told him what the problem was and that it would be fixed and ready for him on Monday. Come Monday they give him a call and say that the part is not covered by his extended warranty and they want $800 to fix it. So, I am trying to find out how many others this has happened to.

The rest of the story is that when it failed his truck went forward (foot on clutch tranny in 1st gear) and hit another truck. No damage to the other truck, but he now has to have a new hood, grill, and grill surround.

His truck:
2001 F150
4.2 6cyl
5speed manual
4x2
55,000 miles

Awaiting any advice
Thank you,
Tom

Slave Cylinder

Slave cylinder just went out in my 98 with 90,000 miles. Currently at mechanics getting estimate for repair. Labor is what is going to hurt here since it is internal. Also thinking about replacing the clutch plate while it is torn apart, but haven't decided entirely. I am somewhat hesitant to replace the clutch plate since my clutch has been flawless up to that point. Replacement clutches never really seem the same. But if it is worn dramatically, since it is already in pieces...it will probably get replaced.
