Anyone else got a sloppy Cl III hitch in '02 S'crew?
Hi all,
My '02 S'crew factory installed hitch seems really sloppy. I have the standard Cl III reciever but every shaft I have installed into it has between 1/8th and 3/16ths of an inch of space at the top and sides.
Hauling my 5200lbs. TT is quiet because of ample tongue weight, but when I hook up a boat or utility trailer, it sounds like the whole frame is gonna rattle loose. Anyone else notice this? What options do I have? Any info appreciated.
Thanx

You know, I noticed a bit of "play" in mine as well, but it wasn't much worse than what I had with a Draw-Tite on my old '97 F150. As for a fix, well, maybe shim it if it bothers you that much?

My '01 Scab is the same way. The insert will rattle when unloaded or lightly loaded. I simply slid the insert out and gave it 2 or 3 wraps with duct tape and tapped it in with a rubber mallet. End of problem.
Seems to ride/handle a bit better when towing as the play in it is reduced too.

I know I have seen a product that addresses this issue. Seems like it is some sort of gasket or sleeve that goes on your draw bar before you put it in the receiver. I will see if I can locate where I saw it. (Of course, I have no first hand experience with it, so can't really comment on its effectiveness.)
