Thumbs up Supercrew Towing results - Long trip

Just got back from a trip from Canada to Texas towing a TT. (See Signature). Myself, spouse and two teenage daughters. The GCWR was 12,740# (240# over the limit) and the truck was 6,820 including the tongue weight of about 600#. (70#over). The truck pulled great all the way. Terrain was mostly flat but I could see it would be struggling in the mountains. I converted all numbers to US values. Total trip was 4,964 miles with about 4,000 pulling the trailer. Total gallons used was 516.2 at a cost of $766. (15 cents/mile, 9.6 miles/gal average) . Average price for fuel was $1.48 (Lowest in Texas at $1.25, highest in Canada at $1.87). If I'm not pulling the trailer and I drive 60 MPH I get 17.5 MPG on the highway. The back seat passengers were quite comfortable the whole trip and the truck was a pleasure to drive. I ran with overdrive off the whole trip and the air conditioner ON. Oil used was about 3/4 quart. Total miles on the truck now is 25,000.
Miscellaneous:
-KOA campgrounds are expensive if you are not a member
-Drivers in US, especially Houston were very courteous.
- Make sure teenage girls have walkmans with headphones on long trips

its a good drive eh, Them wyoming-montana roads can get windy, LOL. We drove from Oklahoma to Alaska and back. 15,000 total miles on the V10 MH. Depending on how far you went into canada, the roads can get really bad due to frost heaves. The Canadian provencial parks rule, for all american visiors without the camping pass, they are free. When we drove by the Lake Louise area, we went up and the lake still had a thin layer of Ice on it, so no pretty color lake for us, lol. It took a little bit of getting used to the Metric scale, gas in Liters and Miles in Kilometers. When we told the border patroll we had 2 marlin 45-70's, well, we were detained for about 3 hours while they searched everything and scanned all the bullets for the proper depth (not quite hollow point). Then we were on our way. We came back on Highway 101, and 1 down the pacific coast, which was really nice. All in all, 62 day's and one good drive. But it was a blast and an experience of a life time.

oh yea, 2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 dog. LOL

We left our dog in a kennel for 3 weeks ($200) but it survived . We had a tailwind from the North in Kansas that was 60MPH. We averaged 15mpg that day! Roads in the US are much better than most in Canada. For conversion factors here are the values:
1 US gallon = 3.7854 Litres
1 US$ = 63.3 cents (Aug 28/02)
1 Mile = .621 KM
'huh' = 'eh'

I just calculated that driving a VW TDI Diesel( and no trailer) would have only cost $137 instead of $766. But... you lose a way of life travelling.
