Step forward or backward?
I wanted to get some opinions on a possible purchase. I have a '98 Expy 4X4 with 3.73 gears. I tow a 24 ft enclosed trailer, loaded it is at 7340 lbs, yep I am slightly over the GCWR. It took several trips out to get everthing balanced right with the weight dist. hitch and LLS but it really tows pretty well. I pull with OD off usually 60 to 65 max, very comfortable pull.
I am shopping for a 01 Screw, 5.4 is manditory but all I find is 3.55 gears. Will the extra HP and torque of the 01 vs my 98 plus the longer wheelbase provide a better pull than my Expy. I would gain some power, but loose some gear and loose the LLS. I'd like another 4X4 but I really don't need it plus towing weight is reduced due to the extra weight of the 4X4. Anyone have experience towing heavy loads with a Screw 2wd or a Screw 4wd. Thanks for opinions and suggestions.
BTW, I am keeping the Expy and not really interested in a F250.

It's not a great comparison but my Expy has 3:55's and my boat weighs anywhere form 7000-7500# depending on fuel, water gear. I've towed it at about 7500#, in OD and had no problems. And I get 11-12 MPG depending on whether AC is on and whether I have the bimini(s) up in radar or laying down. It does great.
