Question Raer Differential Size?

I am changing the gear in my truck for more torque when towing. I know the ratio is a 3:55 but I need help determining the size of the housing. I thought it was an 8.8 but someone told me differently. I called my local ford dealer and they said that there are some trucks that have a bigger housing than the norm. Somebody tell me how I can go about figuring out what it is on my own without driving all over the place talking to people who realy don't know either. I have no faith in my local Ford dealer as you can tell. Thanks for any advice.

you can determine by...

if your truck has the 4.2L v-6 or the 4.6L v-8 then you have the 8.8inch rear end.

if you have the 5.4L v-8 then you have the 9.75 inch rear end.

If you get under it and look at the back of the differential housing there's a metal tag that will show your gear ratio and axle size.

I've got the 5.4 and I changed my gears from 3.31 to 3.73 and added Limited Slip and a superchip. I pull a 18' enclosed trailer and It's like a different truck now, definitely worth the money.
