I just purchased a 2002 f-150 xlt and need to get a trailer hitch for my truck. Does anybody know if a hitch for a 2001 will fit my truck. I found one that is a lot less that getting one from the factory. Thanks

Hi Chris

Know what you mean...The '02 are so new...so...the aftermarket guys are working to update...but that does take time.

Do i know for sure the 'O1 hitch will fit the 'O2...No...

My guess is the frame work is the same....just new model has some refinements. Chances are frame work same for many older models..(same truck etc.) as the 'O2.

If hitch you want is mail-order...well...all you get stuck is possibly return postage...or is it local?

Anyhow...you didnt say what you will be towing...I assume you'll need a plug-in (7pin connector) or?.. harness...relays...if heavy trailer with elect. brakes...then a brake controller with harness..maybe even a tranny cooler if AT...gears...maybe not.

You might want to consider installing the highest weight rated hitch for your truck..Check the GVWR etc.

Geez...i thought anyone buying new truck got tow pkg?

Just thoughts....Good luck on your new ride. OT

Thanks for all the info. The hitch was a purchase from a local store so I went ahead and took the chance that it will fit. I will probably install it this comming week. It is a Reese class 3 so I will let everybody know how it works out. You would think that spending so much money they could throw a hitch in. Wrong. I will be towing a trailer with my ATV in it so it shouldn't be any big job. The truck came prewired so I don't have to fool with that. I will let you know how it turns out.

I finally got around to getting my hitch put on. Let me say that was the easiest job in the world. Even though it was for a 2001 it bolted right up to my 2002. I haven't used it yet but it looks great!!!!! I'm now looking for a spray in bed liner if anybody has any suggestions. I have looked at rhino and line-x and will be purchasing one soon. I'm also looking for some nurf bars if anybody has any good suggestions I would love to hear them.

f150 2002, Post you want an ad on the Lightning forum. A lot of these guys take there hitches off and never use. them. People have been known to pick them up cheap. Bob.

f 150 2002. You will be able to get the seven pin connector off the truck as well. Bob.
