I'l through in one more vote for "NO". There is no F150 that would come close to safely towing 12000#. Actualy, I'm not sure an F150 in any dress would be able to move 12000# much at all.

I tow about 7200# with my expy and it does a great job but not without the mods I've done. It's very stable and easily moves it well. It's rated to tow 7800# which I'm not sure I could do and fill it up with fuel and add a few people. GVWR is about 13700# I think.

I can't imagine towing much more although I could probably pull 9000#. But not safely I wouldn't think. And listen to the post above about tonque weight. I tow a boat which is about the best weight distributed trailer you can get. Most other trailers are much different.

Super Duty with at least the V10, preferably the PSD. Oh, and make sure you use tow equipment that's rated for the load. Don't go to walmart and buy a draw bar rated for 3500# on a Class II receiver when you should be looking at a ball mount rated for what you're towing. And the ball is the same thing. Get a ball rated for what you're towing. It's a pain, I know I've had a had time getting al my stuff. I replaced my OEM CLass III with a Putnam Class IV, bought a 10000# rated ball mount and an 8000# rated ball. That's keep the lawyers away if something happened!

Lightbulb towing

Garry,

You can buy a good used SD 2wheel drive 7.3 diesel for 20k or less now adays. That is less than a decent new F150.

I drove a used 97 F350 4x4 Crew Cab 7.3L Turbo long bed this weekend pulling my 24ft camper trailer. IT'S AWESOME!

I highly recommend a F350 with a 7.3L 1997 or newer to pull 12,000lbs. You will also need a class 4 hitch. No way in H*&l should you EVER pull that kind of weight with a F150 unless it is just around your yard and driveway. And you will may end up replacing rear springs afterwards...

Just my 2 cents worth.

Good luck shopping.

I may be able to set you up with this 97 if I don't buy it first. It is a STEAL at $15K !!

Joe
