Smile How much can I pull?

I just purchased a 1998 F150 XLT with the Triton V8 4.6 liter engine. The truck came equipped with a trailer hitch.

The owner's manual says that, for that particular engine, the maximum trailer weight is 5,500 lbs if the axle ratio is 3.08, and 7,500 lbs if the axle ratio is 3.55.

So far so good. So now the question is: How do I find out what is the actual axle ratio that my truck has?

I would appreciate any useful hints on how to discover the axle ratio. thank you in advance.

I just got my 1998 a few weeks ago. I just managed to get my gear ratios figured out. Check the axle sticker if it's still there, 862B is a 3:55 ratio. Also the sticker in the drivers door jam. If the axle code is 19 it's a 3:55 ratio. Hope this helps. If it's not those check here. http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...ear_ratios.htm
