What connections for those little utility trailers?

You know those little 5x8 trailers places like Tractor Supply sells? What (if anything) special connectors or adapters would I need to hook up the lights and so on for those? I'm looking at some I see on craigslist and I occurred to me that I don't really know if the wiring connector for those utility trailers would plug right in to my truck (I have the 2014 XLT with tow package) or if I'd need to go buy something extra and bring it with me if I were to go pick up a trailer from someone. If I were buying one at the store I could just go look at the trailer and then look at my truck and then walk inside the store and buy the right connection if needed....but if I buy from a private party, I'd need to know a little bit about how these late model utility trailers connect. I'm talking about the small ones that places like TSC sells that already have connections...but I don't know what those are since I've never really towed anything (except for while in the army ;-)

Thanks for your advice.

Good for you for thinking ahead and being prepared.

I think most of the small utility trailers would have the four pin 'flat' type connector.

Of course, there could be other connectors on them, too. Probably best to ask the seller what type of connector the trailer has. Maybe they already have an adapter on hand they will include with the sale.

If they don't, an adapter for your truck to the four pin style should be inexpensive and readily available at any good auto parts store or trailer rental yard.

Thanks. My old 2004 F150 only had the large round connector near the hitch. My new truck has the smaller four pin connection you mentioned as well as the larger round connector. As long as the trailer came from the factory with the four pin, I guess I'll be all set :-)

What class?

One more dumb question. :-)
What class hitch is the one they factory install on the f150's like mine?
