tow with the under dog (3.7)

My wife and i(just married few weeks ago) have been really like camping and have tryed a few different trailers they where all bumper pulls but we have went to a 5th wheel yes I put a 5th wheel hitch in the back of a 3.7 I didn't know any one that had done this as of yet and for any one thinking of it go for it pulls a lot better trailer is around 5000 lbs loaded and ya its a little slow if you are not trying to get rit of a lot of gas at once but really over all I'm very happy with it. Any one else towing with there 3.7 not a eco boost sorry I don't want to hear how much better they are

Good for you! Those engines seem to be very reliable.

It may tow well, but I bet you are way over your max payload and rear GAWR. It's not the engine or tranny, it's the rear axle and chassis. The 5th wheel hitch weight and the pin weight are both considerably higher than a conventional rig.

Um how do you know if he is over payload? Seems the weight police and issuing tickets now without warrants. Stop, take a breath, don't jump so quick when people get a 5th wheel without and HD f-150 or F-250. Now read. He has a supercab. If it is 2x4, it has up to 1600 lb payload. Trailer is 5000 lbs. Even loaded, it only has 1000 lb pin. That leaves plenty for him and his fat wife.

That out of the way, the rest of us would love to see pictures of your setup, OP.

Not only do you have the pin weight, you have the weight of the hitch itself. Depending on how the trailer is loaded, the pin weight may be more than 1000#. Just saying.......

People tow over one or more limits every day. If you choose to do so, you at least need to know that you are.

HA... I love to see the "how dare you tow that trailer" crowd chime in and insist everyone is over weight.

I am sure you did some math before deciding on what trailer to buy so lets see some pics

Problem is, most people don't and they take the word of an RV salesman, many of whom could care less about numbers and just want to sell the biggest and most profitable thing they can get away with.

Gee - Ford is advertising all over TV that a F-150 can tow 11300 pounds. The uninformed and unscrupulous says that means any of them can. Truth is, NONE of them can without going over some other limit except under some very specific and quite unrealistic conditions. Again, people tow over limits all the time, but there ARE limits, and if you have an accident towing a trailer over limits and the investigators want to make an issue out of it, you will have major liability issues.

sorry be away for a bit. the axle is the good old 8.8 ford that's right the only ford axle in a f150 that does not need rebuilt after 100,000km. I do not know what the pin weight is on the trailer, now that said my old bumper trailer put my truck down more than my 5th wheel. I test drove this trailer and a few others with my truck be for I layed out the cash im near the max rated towing of this truck. now that said this truck is rated to pull more than my 2000 f150 with a 4.6 and a 5 speed stick. or my older 5.0l trucks. as far as breaking it stops good and it has pulled this trailer in norther Canada and that's a test for any truck. this past fall I took a drive with my father in law to go and pick up his 5th wheel(year older than mine same size/model it was a hour drive down and hour back when I got there I filled my truck with gas and then filled it with gas after dropping the trailer got 14 ish us mpg pulling, it was good going and very few hill and they where small hills with tow haul on and I wound dis 6th gear the truck was happy in 5th . in hind sight if I had to do it again id still buy the 3.7 maybe id get power lock and windows lol truck has 3.73 ls in the 8.8. I have seen many diffs fail/need bearing by 60,000 miles no where 8.8s the rear end was one reason for getting this truck. my truck is use year round most the km I put on I could do with a car, weekend its my atv in the back or the trailer maybe the odd trip for lumber, for what I do keep your 5.0 and you pos eb. hater start now lol..p.s 5.0 do sound mint

Wow looks like you made a smart purchase for your needs. I have a super cab as well and, like you, will go over GCWR before GVWR in many cases. I had no idea that you could get a LS in a non-HD!! I hate the open diff and miss the LS on my 2004 stx. That being said, price increase of 5.0 was worth it for me, just got to save for EATON truetrac LS. There is a guide somewhere for posting pics.

BTW, your post is a bit hard to read... is English your second language?
