1997 f150 towing question

I have a 1997 f150 that is rated to tow 6600 lbs. I am looking to buy a horse trailer and getting a new truck is just not in the budget. Would it be best for me to look at bumper pulls or goosenecks? I would like to get a gooseneck if possible but I'm afraid that might be over loading my truck. I would only be towing about once a month and with only one horse, very rarely two horses. Some the new featherlite models suggest that the goosenecks weigh only 3300 lbs?

do you even know what engine you have?
what about gears?
what cab/bed configuration?

if a larger truck is out of the question then why even consider buying a trailer that is too large for your truck to tow safely?

if it is the 4.6 auto i am guessing you have 355 gears. i can do it, but it wont go fast, and will be a thirsty pig. Trust me, been there, done that. If you are towing once a month you will be fine.

A gooseneck will probably put you over GVWR/max payload. It's the tongue/pin weight that you need to be concerned about, not the max trailer weight.
