Adding a tow package?

I have a 2010 F150 4x4 Supercrew, XLT, 4.6L 3v v8, 3.55 reg axel, and 7000# gvwr package. I am looking at the window sticker and do not see the tow package listed. Besides the hitch, what do I need to add to this to get it ready to tow? I have purchased a 21' fishing boat w/tandem axel trailer (roughly 3800lbs) and will be towing this with my truck.

Hitch, 7 pin wiring harness, and a brake controller. That's assuming the trailer has electric brakes. If it has surge brakes you only need a 4 pin harness and don't need a controller. If it has no brakes, that's illegal at that weight.

Wouldn't hurt, but only towing that much it's not really needed. The factory cooler should be fine.

how far, how often, and would you consider modding your truck or buying a new one to handle the boat since you have far from the optimal towing setup now?

A stock 4.6 3 valve is more than capable of towing that weight.

3800lbs illegal whitout brakes? really?

I towed my ex 6x12 enclosed at 3500 whitout brake and no real need of them really.

towed a flat bed with a KarmanGhia with non-working brake and wasn't that bad either.

3800lbs No need to change anything to your truck...a Ranger can do this weight easily.

Better research the various state and provincial regulations.........

http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm

In your case, Quebec requires brakes over 1300kg or if the trailer exceeds 1/2 of the tow vehicle weight. For you metrically challenged people, that's 2860 lb. Guess what? You were illegal.

You should have trailer brakes if the truck+trailer weight is over your truck's GVW.
