Post Equalizing hitch

Can anyone explain the proper way to set up an equalizing hitch on a trailer.
Do you hook the arms before the weight of the trailer goes on the ball mount?

Thank you

what you do is this
1.lower the trailer down onto the ball
2.latch the trailer to the ball
3.lift the trailer back up some
4. then attach the equilizer bars
5. then lift the jack

i am pretty sure that is about it
i have a 5th wheel so i do not remember totally how to do it.

Ron is right - if you try to connect the bars after putting the load on the truck, you will never get it to connect because the load is too great. For the same reason, take the load off the bars before you try to disconnect them. There is a lot of energy in those spring bars!

For advise on how to properly setup the hitch (very important to avoid sway), check out http://www.can-am-rv.com/cantow1.htm
