removing 7 pin connector?
Has anybody done this? Is it hard to do? Is there a connector that plugs into the tail light wiring or do the wires run all the way to the fuse box?

There is a plug right between the spare tire and the rear bumper. It unplugs right there. There is a tab that has to be depressed before it will pop lose. It will come off as a plug and wire harness. Easily replaced with a four pin or 7 pin unit.

The only problem with removing it is....there is another harness behind the one on the frame rail that goes up to your left tail light. If you remove it, you will have no lights on the rear of your truck. If you really want to remove it, Just cut it, and tape off the ends. If you save the wires, you can have it re-wired for a four way flat plug for your jet ski.

I recently added two 55w backup lights and the trailer hitch connector was right in the way. So I unbolted the bracket, took the wires off, pounded the bracket off flat and cut about 4 inches of it off. I then bolted the bracket backup sideways. The reason I put it back on sideways is so I can still have access to the plug in but most of the connector is hidden behind the lights. I thought about taking it off but still wanted to be able to tow something.
Note: They do make a 7 round to 4 flat adapter for about $12.

Thanks for the help. I didn't notice the connectors when I was feeling around to see if there was any. I was abour ready yo cut the wires. The screw holding the ground wire was a b!tch to remove.

Every truck with a 7 pin from the factory came with one of these adapters. It's part of the trailer tow package. Every F150 comes with a 4 pin.
My advice would be to buy the
4 pin connector. I bet it plugs right where the 7 pin plugs into the wiring harness.
Then you'll have your 4 pin, no big 7 pin hanging there, and no bastardised/cut wires with tape hanging up there waiting to be a problem.
