Question Adding A 7 Pin Connector

Question for you all.

I have a 99 F150 XLT SC 4x4 that I bought off the lot WITHOUT the trailer towing group.

I am now interested in towing a 19' Travel Trailer. Bolting on the CIII hitch reciever is not a problem but was wondering about the wiring.

My truck came stock with the standard 4 pin flat connector but I now want to add the 7 pin unit. What is involved? Is the truck pre-wired or is it going to be a splice job?

Help/Hints/Tips?

Thanks

Call the dealership... tell them you need the 7-pin pig-tail. It should plug into the main harness at the same point the 4-pin does. You might also need the 7-pin to 4-pin adapter kit to get the relays and the adapter for electric brakes. I don't know if the 98 came with them or not... someone else might know for sure. On my 2000, I had to install 2 additional relays under the hood in the fuse block for the charging circuit and the back-up circuit for the trailer plug. I know the 97 and 98 trailer tow package had those already installed.

The wiring harness is the starting point, though... Dealership will have it, but a junk-yard might also.

I am looking at having one hard wired. The harness from the dealership is $88. I can have one hard wired at a hitch shop for $45. I was going to do it myself, but the factory harness has another harness behind it that goes up to your tail lights so cutting the harness is out of the question. It was too confusing for me, so I am taking it in on Monday.
