The F150's are that way as well. That's one reason I stayed with a 2x4. It gives me 300Lb more capacity than a 4x4. It appears to be due to the extra weight of the 4x4. I loose 300 lbs as well due to the Supercrew. It must be the extra weight of the bigger cab more doors and seats etc.

I always wondered if 300 lbs makes any difference at all when you're talking about 8 or 10 thousand pounds?

Question 4WD vs 2WD Towing on Excursion.....?

Why is the 4x2 6.8L V10 Excursion listed at a 10,000lbs towing capacity, while the 4x4 V10 is listed at a 9,700lbs maximum? Is the suspension weaker on the 4WD? Why is that?

The front end adds weight to the truck and pulls some power from the rearend.

The bottom line is the gross combined weight rating. the 4x4 drivetrain and v-10 adds around 300 lbs, thereby removing about 300 lbs from the towing capacity.
