Question Which Trailer Brake Controller

I just got my new F-150 5.4v and want to install a brake controller. My truck has the towing package. Does anyone have any advice on which brake controller might be best?

I have a Draw Tite Activator II, It is a good brake controller and it also has a digital read out, which was why I chose this particular model. Draw Tite and Tekonsha are good names, I would stay away from the Hoppy controlers, I had one of those and it really sucks.

I have a Tekonsha that has a funny habit of not working well the first few times it is activated each day. The power ramps up after a few applications.

It is not the trailer brakes since the light won't glow red until after the first few applications. To compensate, I have to crank up the gain at first then back it off. It's annoying.

I transferred a Tekonsha Voyager from my 98 super cab to my new screw. This Tekonsha provided smooth strong braking power, even in emergency situations. As a bonus the front brakes lasted 61,000 miles and the rears were OEM when I gave it back to the leasing company.

In my Chevy van I have a Reese which I will be replacing with another Tekonsha Voyager.

I have a Tekonsha Sentinal 9055. I love it! It is inertia activated, which is a little more expensive

Question

Now for a related question...do I need a pulse preventer for the Activator II? When would a preventer be used anyway?
