GVWR/Weight of 97 250 Lariat Light Duty 4x4
I looked at a 98 of the same rig that had a GVWR of 7700 lbs. I then found a 97 of the same truck (Lariat 4x4, Shortbed, Light Duty) and assumed it would be the same specs.
I know own the truck and noticed it has a GVWR of 7200 lbs. Was this an option or did Ford change this in 98?
I have a 2000lbs camper without propane and water full and would like to know how much this truck alone weighs and if I can exceed the GVWR by a few hundred pounds?

From the '97 brochure, the F250LD, w/ 4.6l was rated at 7200lb GVWR. The 5.4l was rated 7700lb GVWR. Be sure to use the GVWR posted on the door sticker.
Take the truck (no-load, full tank of gas) to the scales, (any truck stop) and see what it weighs.
Subtract that weight from the GVWR for your truck, and the answer will be the amount of payload you can legally place in the bed of the truck.
I am almost certain, though I could not find it in the brocure, that F250 LD's had a camper option, with a camper cert.

I think what you are realy concerned about is the GCVWR (gross *combined* weight rating) Obviously the aproximately 200 - 300 pound tounge weight of your 2000 pound trailer needs to be added to your GVWR but you also seem to be trying to calculate your GCVWR as well. I am fairly certain you are OK both ways however and not exceeding either. If I had to guess I would guess the "wet" weight of your truck at 6000 pounds for a regular cab and maybe 6400 for a Super Cabwith no passengers or gear included. So lets say 400 pounds for two people and a couple of hundered for gear in the back and 250 for the tounge weight of the trailer would get you in around a little under 7K GVW. And say just under 9K GCVW. See? I think you are OK but weigh it and see.

Strangely, my 97 250LD w/ a 5.4 is door jambed at 7200 GVWR. Maybe another reason to get a new truck.

catmandu1999, might your truck have the ORP? If so that would explain a 500 pound reduction (maybe) if the tire diameters were different then in a F250LD ORP. I don't remember the size it had but the regular F150 ORP had 17 inch wheels and this did change the towing capacity on those. Just fishing here for an answer. Really I cannot explain your difference.
No ORP. I have the standard 7-lug 16 inch tires like all the rest. Not a big deal to me, I stay in limits anyway, but still an interesting burp in the system.

If it's any help, Nick weighs in at 5550 pounds with the famine-resistant driver (me) and a full tank of fuel.
A set of helper springs would probably even the score for you.
