Brake controller wiring question
Greetings,
I just got my new Supercrew with the Class III tow package. It came with a wiring harness and relays for the brake controller.
I am looking at my wiring harness supplied with the towing package and I see a 5th wire called ILLUMINATION FEED (apparently for the running lights on my trailer) but my brake controller (Tekonsha Commander 9010)only has 4 wires. The ILLUMINATION FEED is supposed to cut into the headlight wire somewhere.
Since it came with the trailer wiring already hooked up at the receiver, shouldn't the running lights have a connection already wired to the receiver connection?
BTW, I know how the controller needs to be wired but I wouldn't want to have to cut into any underdash wiring if I don't have to.
Also, Tekonsha recommends that the ground wire be directly wired to the battery. What is wrong with the ground wire supplied with the towing harness? Isn't it a direct line already? Should I connect the Ground wire directly to the battery?
Thanks.

Greetings to you too
I went over to the diesel board to do some research on this. This is basicly what I came up with:
About the hooking up directly to the battery for the ground wire. Most of the guys over there that use the Tekonsha hook directly to the battery. One guy had problems, he even used a dedicated #10 wire but it didn't solve his problems. He had to get a completely different brand of controler. They only talked about the Tekonsha Envoy, the Voyager and the Sentinel.
About the brown illumination wire: on my controler (Activator II) it was simply left alone. I think it's for controlers that have dimming type lights on them. You hook up w/the other 4 wires but not the 5th (brown)wire. If you need any help with what wire color hooks to what color, I can tell you how my Activator II hooked up. I just don't know what colors your controler uses so I don't know how much good that would do for you.

Tina is correct the brown wire is from the controller. My Powerstop has a blue light showing the manual activation button.

Yes,
I would agree with the last replies the illumination wire is for the light in the brake controller. My manual activation bar lights up so you can see it at night. If your controller does not have this then don't use that wire.

Thanks,
My controller (Tekonsha Commander) has only 4 wires Ground, Battery, Stop light and Brake so I won't need the ILLUMINATION FEED. I looked at skyjet's site at: http://www.over.to/SuperCrew/
again and I see that he had info about the ILLUMINATION FEED wire.
I don't know why I didn't see it before. Probably cause I was eyeballing his SCrew.
