Weight distribution hitch or Air lift bags?
Weight distribution hitch or Air lift bags?
My trailer has quite a bit of tongue weight, and sometimes I throw another quad in the back of the truck...and with this setup, my new truck squats pretty bad. My old F-250 wasn't so bad because the springs were so stiff, but it isn't the same with the new F-150. So I'm looking into options to help keep it from dragging *** so bad while towing. I don't want to change the ride quality while I'm not pulling the trailer, so adding stiffer or extra leafs isn't really an option (I know, I'm spoiled with this new truck...lol)
I don't actually know how much tongue weight there is on the trailer when it is loaded up, but here is a picture to give you an idea.

This is the normal setup, 2 quads in front of the trailer axles...the one in the front weighs around 550 lbs, and the one behind that weighs around 450lbs. The RZR is around 1100 lbs, but most of the weight is in the rear because that is where the motor is. When we head to the dunes with some friends, I throw another quad up front, and scoot the RZR back a few more feet, and put another quad in the bed of the truck. As you can see, the F-250 didn't squat at all with this load, and only dropped maybe an inch or two at most with another quad on the trailer, and one in the bed. My new truck (2010 crew cab Lariat 4x4) doesn't handle the trailer as well...I haven't loaded it up with more than is pictured above yet, but it was definitely squatting with just that load, so I'm not sure I would want to try it fully loaded up.
So what do you guys think? Air bags or a weight distribution hitch? I have NO experience with either setup, so I don't know any pros or cons of either.
Here are the two that I'm considering...
Bags:

I have a big compressor in my garage, so I could easily fill the bags before I leave...and I keep a big nitrogen cylinder on the trailer, so I could always fill them or add to them on the road if need be.
Weight distribution hitch:

With the WD hitch, would I want the 600, 800, or 1000# hitch? What makes them different to change the weight rating?
Anybody have any experience or comments on either setup? Or something different to look into?
Thanks,
Kyle

I didn't realize it was that low to begin with...sounds like I NEED to get the WD setup. So what do you guys think, 600, 800 or 1000# WD hitch?
