Tuners
Tuners
Ok fellas I am going to ask this question in this section not the tuner section in the chance to get a better answer.
I am in the market for a tuner, Edge or Gryphon (on sale right now) are the two I am looking at. My question is do I really need to spend the extra coin on the Gryphon. The truck is leveled with 33s and all stock with 3.73s and 5.4. I do a bit of towing and I am looking for a little bit of help on the power side. I don't need the big 91 octane performance tunes and stuff like that (look at my screen name I have other toys to pound on for speed and fun)this truck is my work horse. By the way my TT is a 22' salem and I occationally to my trail Jeep.
So are you guys happy with your canned tunes for a little extra oomph?

I'll give you my humble opinion on the Edge Evo and towing.
I currently tow about a 3000# gross weight trailer with a 2003 F150 regular cab with a 4.6, all stock except a Gott's mod and 2.5" Magnaflow SI/SO muffler. I currently use an Edge Evo in towing (Level 2) mode. I tow anywhere from 1000 feet to almost 9000 feet in elevation here in Arizona, and in temperatures from freezing to 115 degrees. In other words, torture testing at its finest. In my humble opinion, the stock tune for towing is about a 3 on a 1 to 10 scale, and the level 2 towing canned program is about an 8. The ONLY way to improve it is by going to a Gryphon with a custom towing tune.
The other thing I would do is to try the Evo yourself with the level 2 towing tune, and see how you like it. Like has been said many times, your experience may vary. I do know that after you try it with the stock settings on the level 2 program, you can then customize the tune for those 33s and the 3.73 rear end gearing.
Also, you might want to call and talk to Corey and/or Bill at Power Hungry Performance about what you would like to do with regards to programming and towing. I am positive they will not steer you wrong on what to do.

I have an edge that I bought used from a member here. I have had it on level 2 and 3. I put it back on level 2 for towing cuz I prefer to feel the torque at the low end and it saves on gas. Level 3 is a hell of a lot of fun but you have to run the 91 and it gets expensive. I just did the gotts mod and it really woke it up some more. If I could start over though I would go with the Gryphon and get custom tunes.
The canned towing tune on the Edge, level 2 is very good. A custom towing tune on the Gryphon is better. Never tow more than 2500 lbs on level 3, the canned performance tune.

Thanks fellas I will probibly go with the Edge just for the reason of saving a little cash and I do believe from all the searching and reading I have done here it will suffice my needs. I am just trying to get some real world advice, thats why I posted here in the towing and not bothering the tuning heads in the tuner section.
This site can get a little over whelming when you can't make your mind up. HA HA HA

I average anywhere from 11 - 13.5 mpg pulling that heavy camper where I live. I used to get anywhere from 9 - 11.5 before my tuner.
A little update. I got an Edge from a friend and absolutely love it. I towed my wifes Jeep Liberty with it 3 days ago and what a difference it made. The best $150 dollars I will spent on the truck in my books.
