Towing Capacity
Towing Capacity
Hey guys, I sold my last f150 and am buying a newer one. I'm looking at several 2001 Supercrew's with 4x4 and a 5.4 engine. My big question is do you think I will be ok towing 5500 lbs of boat and trailer with it. I believe the towing capacity says 7700 pounds on those, but I would like to hear from people who have one or know these trucks very well. I don't want to spend the money on one and find out it struggles and possibily might be hurting the engine. All of the ones I am looking at come with a tow package. Any help would be much appreciated. I've looked for hours on the internet and talked with dealers who don't seem quite confident with what they are telling me. Anyhow, the weight i said of 5500 lbs is exact weight of my boat and trailer fully gased and loaded. Please respond by email. bmayhugh@comast.net
Thanks,

My old truck was a 2002 4X4 with the 4.6 and my boat weighs between 3,800 and 4,200 pounds depending on how I have it loaded. It did not like pulling it, however keep in mind that there is a huge difference between the 4.6 and 5.4. The only real problems I had pulling it with that truck were power related (not enough power to get out of its own way, I also had 3:55 gears), weight wise the truck handled the load fine it just felt underpowered. That said I now have a 2008 with the 5.4 and it is a world of a difference over my old truck. In an F-150 the 5.4 is the only way to go.
