will it tow?

i've searched a few threads, but didn't find anything definate. this spring i'm looking at renting a travel trailer from cruise amercia in orlando, and taking a trip to the keys. i spoke with the people about the weight of the trailer, it tips the scales at 6k fully loaded. my truck is a 2006 Scab, 4.6, 3.73 gears, edge evo, lifted with 35's. will this load be too much to handle on the flat land of florida?

While I don't think I could tolerance your engine/gears/tire combo while not towing, the truck should 6k pounds just fine. Make sure the rental includes weight distributing hitch and an electronic brake controller.

Only problem I see is your 35's. You really need to change the rear to a lower rear. 4.10s or higher. Otherwise you will probably kill the transmission. Or if you have the OE tires, you might want to use them.

i plan on re-gearing, just not before the trip. the tire's aren't a full 35 inch. 305/70 17, technically comes out to about 34.6" with the wear i have on them, looking at closer to 34.2". i really don't want to to fry the tranny though.

With that final gear ration, you vehicle might not be rated to tow that high. Your OE tires were probably 29-30", meaning going to 35" changed the final ratio to well below 3.55. I think the 3.31 gears allowed a max tow capacity of below 5k.

PS- new gears or not, you want to make sure you have a good aux tranny cooler.

Yes it does. Even the vehicles without a tow package have tranny coolers. It is just a smaller size.

Just an fyi, I checked the owners manual and your truck with 3.73 and 17" wheels is rated to tow 6,900lbs. With those 35" wheels, that number will drop dramatically.

PS - tranny cooler on my old 04 with tow package.
