towing help

Friend`s I have a 2006 supercrew 5.4 355 limited slip 20 inch wheels.
Was wondering if I could pull a 5765lb travel trailer. It is 32.9 long that is dry weight. Book say`s it will pull 13,000 gross ,8000 max trailer.I`m thinking it might be too much for this setup. What about changing gear ratio to 3.73 or 4.10? Or maybe going to the standard wheel size instead of the 20`s?

That will be over 7k ready for a trip. That's more than I want to tow with any 1/2 ton, yet people do it. Also, with that kind of length, you want a long wheelbase truck. Do you have 2WD or 4wd? 5.5" bed or 6.5"?

I think that is too much for your truck. We tow about 5,000 pounds and that is PLENTY.

You are going to exceed the GCWR before you exceed the max trailer weight spec. Load up the truck the way you would to take a trip and go get it weighed, then subtract that from the max GCWR to get the *TRUE* max trailer weight.

5765 MAX might be OK... the dry weight probably isn't much help in figuring what the actual weight is back there. Find a scale close by and get the actual. No sense guessing when you are "on the edge" so to speak.
