Leave it plugged in or remove it?

Just out of curiousity, do you leave your light wiring plugged in when you are loading/unloading a boat or unplug it before going near the water?

I am asking as I usually leave mine plugged in as it has yet to touch the water but some had suggested to unplug it anyways.

Nope I always leave mine plugged in and never had a problem.

Always unplug. My old boat the lights were not sealed and if you backed it in plugged in the bulbs would bust if the water was cold. The boat I have now is sealed and they dont need to be unplugged but old habits die hard.

Always unplug. I have been doing it since i was about 8 and my dad always asked me to jump out and unplug the lights before backing down the boat ramp.

...plus your owners manual says to unplug.

leave it plugged in. Don't worry about the fuse, electricity follows the path of least Resistance, right. So even under water its easier to light the light than burn out the fuse.

12 volts DC wont short under water. But as long as you dont have a large boat and need trailer brakes it wont hurt to unplug it.

No trailer brakes, it is just a jet-ski.

If you think leaving the lights plugged in will be a problem, why wouldn't there be a similar problem with them unplugged? Whether there are lights plugged in or not, there is still electricity being sent through those contacts.

lets see...I tow and launch probably upwards of 100 boats a year, never once have I unplugged the trailer lights, and never once have I had a problem.

I always leve my PWC trailer plugged in. Same as you, I have no brakes on it.
Never had a problem.

I have to unplug mine, I have tried it with them plugged in, but me being around saltwater, after a few times of that the grounds start to corrode by the lights, I upgrade to led's so they are fully waterproof but the grounds will still corrode in salt water unless you really rinse the trailer off. as to the lights it wont damage them, you might get some slight corrosion problems after a while but if you move to led's you can have them on in the water and it wont bother them. if your in freshwater you should be fine. but i always unplug mine

I'm usually loading mine at night so I leave them plugged in so I can see the trailer. I've never had a problem with them being on.

I got a 16 foot john boat and if i leave my lights plugged in, the lights blow out, its just because the light bulbs are hot and water on hot glass makes an explosion. Im not worried about wiring or blowing a fuse, it just sucks that i have to replace the bulbs everytime i forget to unplug.
