First heavy tow with the truck

hey guy's i just towed my sister p.o.s kia back from the dealership. i have a 2000 ford f150 2wd supercab 4.6l 5spd 3.55lsd diff. ford only rates this setup at 3500 lbs. but the kia and the u haul trailer is a round 5500-6000 lbs and the truck pulled it just fine.

One thing that would have helped would have been a proper drop hitch. But you overloaded you truck anyways, so who cares I guess.

You're right on the POS comment, good job though on the rest. I don't understand the low Ford rating, this probably broke a small sweat for that rig at worst. I've done heavier with a 5.4 and it was fine, without trailer brakes too!

I know our trucks can handle alot more weight but the problem is stopping it. They recomend those weights bc our trucks can only stop so much weight effectively. I work for a semi trailer company and we constantly have people trying to pull more and more weight behind the dump trucks. The issue is not the power bc with todays motors they make plenty of power, but there comes a point when the vehicle is just to light to stop the load effectively. The weight on the trailer will start throwing the truck around. Anyway thats just my .02 cents. Either way it was a good pull and it does not surprise me you were pulling a kia home....

The reason yours is only rated for 3500# is the manual transmission. It has a relatively weak input shaft.

How many miles were on the KIA? Why were you towing it? My wife has a Sorento EX. No problems to date. It's an 05. It has a 100,000 mile warranty. About 3 times what our Fords have. It's been a great little SUV. Your truck looks like it's sitting a little low. You would have made out better with the proper hitch My travel trailer has a 1000# Tongue weight and my truck doesn't squat like that. It is also 8500# ready to roll.

The correct drop on mine - probably the same for yours - is a 2" flipped over to give you a 3/4" rise.

the kia has around 155k miles on it. and the reason i was towing it is the fuel pump went and aaa towed it to the dealership and they wanted 1400 to fix it. so i towed it back home.the truck was sitting very low because i didn't have the time to flip the 2" drop over and i had about 250 lbs in the bed of the truck.

Looks like you'll be dropping a fuel tank! 155,00 0 isn't bad on the stock fuel pump though. Not to too hard to change providing the tank is empty. Remember, NO SMOKING!
