Question Can I tow my new travel trailer?

HI folks. Just found this site and it looks like you guys will have the answers I'm looking for. I have a 2000 F150 4x2 with 5.4 V8 and 3.55 rear. We have picked out the new travel trailer we want (Rockwood 2701ss). It weighs 4918 dry and 6500 loaded with a hitch weight of 491. A- can I pull this with my truck? B - is yes, what do I need to add to my truck to accomplish this?

Thanks

First of all Welcome to the Site.

As for your question, i am no expert but i do pull a travel trailer about 3-4 trips a year. I have a 28ft that weighs in around 7500 loaded. I would say for the size of your trailer and the truck you have you should be fine so long as you are comfortable towing and don't get in a real hurry. I am saying you should be fine becuase prior to buying my 05 truck , i had a 98 with a 4.6, extcab, 4x4 and i had no trouble pulling my 28 footer at 7500 lbs loaded. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm pulling a small pop camper now, and don't realy know it's there. I know my trips will take longer with less gas milage but I just want to get some other opions...other than the people trying to sell me into a bigger camper.

You need a 7-pin wireing harness if your truck doesn't already have the OEM tow package. You also need a brake controller (think Prodigy) and weight distributing hitch. Otherwise, you should be good withthat setup. If you watn more performacne once you start towing it, get 4.10 gears.

If you don't have the OEM tow package, I'd also look at getting a bigger tranny cooler.

You shouldn't have no problems towing the camper. Just take your time while towing. My camper weighs 6500lb empty.
