Towing Tips
I've got an '01 Screw. 5.4 V8 with stock towing package. I tow a 3700# travel trailer. I don't have any major problems with towing the trailer but would like to "beef up" my current configuration. Can you guys tell me some things to consider about the truck when thinking about this (i.e. equipment, pros and cons, etc.)? I've got the brake controller and a 1000# Reese round bar weight distribution kit which helps out immensely but I want more power and think I can do more with the suspension, brakes, etc. to make the package that much better. Am I online with this thinking? Thanks in advance!

What brake controller do you have? That and WD hitch are probably the most influential in how a trailer tows. Your truck's brakes should be stopping your truck up to GVWR, and the trailer should stop itself via the controller.
The best towing mod for power is shorter gears.
Suspension, get rid of the OEM shocks if you haven't already. I really like Rancho's RSX adjustables for a balance for towing vs. non-towing.

Sorry for chiming in late on this, but one other thing you can do to improve performance and MPG rating is to switch to premium fuel (93 octane) when towing. I spend about 30 nights a year in my camper (32' Rockwood 8317SS) and tow quite a bit. The trailer, fully loaded, is about 8,000 lbs. If I try towing with regular fuel, I get about 7mpg. With premium I am averaging 9.5mpg. More importantly, the tranny is not downshifting as much and I am putting less wear and tear on the system. The power boost is nice too!
