My dad's 1992 GMC 5.7 will almost match my 5.4 stride for stride, both maintain 55 with a 4500 lb tractor on a 2000 trailer with about the same ease.

I can tow a 5x8 enclosed trailer packed to the gills plus a full load in the bed up to the rails with my little ole V6 and cruise at 75 mph till I hit hills, then it's down to 4th gear and 60-65. However........gas mileage doing that is about 14, keeping it below 65 with no hills gets 17.

I towed a 2500 pound car on a 500 pound tow dolly 850 miles at 75-85mph in overdrive. That was overnight, obviously low traffic, with 15 month old and wife sleeping quietly.

Your boss must drive an 88 S10 with the 2.8L V6, or he is running on half his cylinders. Are you sure he didn't say 23,000#? If so, he was way overloaded.

23,000??!? even most 3500 diesel pickups will have stress towing that much...

Any F-150 can move 23000 pounds, except those with 3.08 gears.

I agree that towing an aerodynamic 2300 pound boat on a 1000 pound trailer shouldn't be a problem for any Silverado.

Heck, that's over the limit on the F450 I'm pretty sure. Well out of 3500 range. But that or broke are the only explainations for that on. 3500 shouldn't be dragged down to 45 mph, even pulling 15,000# (probably over it's limit). Maybe in the mountains... really steep long grade.

I'm no Chevy fan, but the math ain't workin'.

While I do not recommend it. I personally have hauled 2300 lbs of sand in the back of my truck( long story) and while I did not get above 60 I had no problems picking up speed to merge into interstate traffic. so brag all you want if his chevy is that bad pull his **** around the parking lot at work

Hmm... I don't get it... my v6 pulled a 6000# boat ok. Totally awesome actually for a 1/2 ton truck with a boat that weighed more than the truck and the tranny was designed for.

I've hauled 2400# of topsoil in my '07 and the only difference I noticed was the rear end acting weird from the weight... which is expected on any F150 (except maybe the 7700# payload)... but acceleration wise, not enough to really care/notice. Which FYI I did get up to around 60 mph... since the speed limit was 55 mph... and if something came flying out in the road and I hit it, my butt would be grass.

on the hauling the 2500lbs of topsoil. made my 4x4 look like a lowered 4x2. i have the 5.4 though so highway speeds=no problem.
