towing a chevy caprice

i was planning on towing my friends chevy caprice with my 2000 ford f150 supercab 2wd 4.6l 5spd 3.55 rear axle but the manual only rates the truck at 2000lbs. the combined weight of the car and trailer would be around 5500-6000lbs. i would have to tow it around 350 miles with a couple long hills. i was wondering if anyone has towing anything similar to this. should i put in a performace chip and upgrade the clutch.

How are you going to Tow the car? A car dolly is risky, a trailer with electric brakes is the only safe way to go.

The most wear and tear on the clutch is going to occur starting out or backing up and don't shift into fith, stay at 55 mph in 4rth.

I have towed the same lbs with my 97 4.2 reg cab 4x4 5sp and this truck had the 4.2

It would be quicker to drive the car to wear it has to go if its road worthy chiping or replacing the clutch is not going to increase your tow ratting, make sure your tranny fluid is clean and full, the mazda trans don't have a great reputation, this is the weak link, but if looked after your ok to tow.
