F-150 4.6L Screw, Tow Pkg or Not??

Just bought a pop-up camper that will weigh about 3,000 lbs once loaded with camping goodies. I've got a F150 Screw 4.6L 2x4 without a towing package and was wonder if I need one installed, if so, what do I really need. I have a DrawTite class III hitch. Will be pulling the camper in and around the Rocky Mountains. Thx.

Has the towing numbers for some year models.

I think they say if towing above 5000lbs you need the towing package.

Which includes a larger radiator, larger transmission cooler. The other items in the package are just the receiver and the wiring.

Thanks, since I'm so close to the Rockes (45min) i've decided to buy a new F150 4x4 lariat. I can't go wrong with that set up. No hill/mountain too high pulling 3000# pupup. Plus, heavy snow days in the flats won't worry me anymore either. thx again!

I would say definitely add a transmission cooler to the transmission . I add one to all my vehicles even those that have it factory (with TP). Heat kills nearly all automatics and a trans cooler is cheap way to add life. Haydon is a big vendor and their website has some good historical data to show how temperature reduction really helps the life .
