reciever??????

I just bought an 06 mercury mountaineer and i want to replace the factory class 2 reciever with a class 3. Any input???????

Apologize for my posts above.
I had no idea Mercury was setup like this.

Looks like the bumper is designed to have some kind of receiver in place.
And the option sheet calls the Class III an 'Upgrade'.
So, all Mountaineers come with a Class II unless they have the 'upgrade' option?

If that's the case, and I wanted a Class III I'd only go back to the dealer.
Aftermarket receivers can either stick farther or less so or lower or something. I wouldn't ruin the aesthetics of a new car like that.

If you will towing beyond the capabilty of the Class II upgrading is a good idea.

If you want to switch just to use other Class III applications such as a bike rack and not due to the towing limits of the Class II, they have hitch adapters to switch you from II to III,

The hitch on the 3rd gens is integrated into the rear cross member/bumper. You can swap out the class 3 from a wrecked vehicle, or you can add a class-3 aftermarket that sits directly below the OEM hitch (looks funky, but is fully functional).
