I am looking at getting a 2005 F150 King Ranch 4X4 5.4 auto Shortbox . I am looking a bed camper that is will put me just 200 under the gvw , I really like the truck I am looking at is there anything I need to know before looking at respring or air bags . I belive the camper dry is 1300 and the lot amount I am able to put in is about 1700 I am sure I am off on the whight of it . any ideas I would love to have this truck!
Thanks

According to the Ford Towing Guide, that truck is not recommended for use with a slide-in camper without the heavy duty payload package. See the link: https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...05_Campers.pdf

You should actually take the thing to a scale to make sure you know how much it weighs, and as an added bonus you may be able to work the price down due to the saleperson's lying!

Seriously tho, i may be a bit concerned if it is only a 5.5 box. My box is 6.5 and if i give it some juice to get up a steep section when im off road with the cmaper it will slide backwards about 2 inches, but only if i give the throttle a quick jerk. Thats the one downside of shortbox trucks is you can't close the tailgate when you got a camper in the back.

Check out my gallery to see a picture of my truck and camper, or if you like you can email me and i'll send you as many as you'd like. Let me know if you want my email.

Cheers,

Tanner

i tow this popup camper and a bed full of camping supplies all the time. the camper is tongue heavy, especially with the bikes on top. it definatly squats a tad bit in the rear and provides for a very bouncy ride on some roads. im only telling you this to give you a comparison of how your in bed camper may act.
