Question for the experienced
Here is my situation. I have a 2003 F150 Supercab 4.6L V8 Triton 2WD. I am looking at buying an 8x16 utility trailer to haul around 2500 lbs of quads and gear. I have been looking at buying an F250 but I still owe to much on my 150. Will my 150 be okay towing this weight? All together it should only be about 4000-5000 lbs at the most. Any and all comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

The truck will pull it fine, but you will you it is working. OD will probably be out of the question, and fuel mileage will really suffer. Get a trans temp guage and keep an eye on the temps if you will be doing much towing. The trans will hold up to lots of towing, but you have to be smart about it. Keep the converter locked whenever possible, and don't let the fluid get too hot. An additional external trans cooler would be a wise investment as well. Bottom line is though that the truck should get the job done no problem.
Weight shouldn't be a problem. The wind resistence will hurt the most on the interstates, but your truck will be just fine. Keep the small stock sized tires. Any idea what rear gear ratio you have? If not, cehck the axle codeon the driver's door sticker and report back. 3.55 would be good. Anything lower, may be bad. Also, we're assuming you have the automatic.
Axle Code
Under the Axle it has a 19. I assume that would be the code. That's the only number I see. Yes I have the automatic. I will only be travelling about 150 Miles. And it will be back roads form 29 Palms, out near Baker, CA. Thanks for the help.
Yes, that's it. you have a 3.55 rear gear, open differential. You'll be just fine towing that trailer, just don't expect to accelerate quickly.
Make sure you get a proportional brake controller, like the Prodigy.
