Thinking of getting aTT

Im thinking of getting a 2005 KZ Sportsmen TT 2903. It has an empty wieght of 6080ls and is 29ft 11in from end to end of course ill be installing elec brakes and also using the wieght dist and sway control . Acording to the 2005 broshure I have from when I purchaced my 2005 supercrew 4x2 5.4 with 3.73's the maximum towing capabilitie for my truck is 9500lbs and th max GCWR is between 13,500and15,000lbs if all this is correct I should be in the middle of this correct? I have not wieghed my truck yet but plan to soon. I also know the empty t wieght is just that but with even packing 1,500lbs of stuff and people I should be OK Right?

I bet you'll be more like 7500-8000 pounds when loaded. UVW ratings are usually pretty low and include no options and obviously no fuel/water. Will your truck pull it? Yep! That's a lot of weight for an F-150, regardless of what Ford says. Enough power? Probably not for me, but people do it.

BTW, if you have 18" wheels, tow rating drops a little. Alos, you'll probably go over GVWR before GCWR.

We tow a 28' Toy Hauler w/ our 2004 Super Crew. Weight wise, we're close (if not right at) the rating. Might not be the fastest thing going down the highway - but the combo pulls safe, handles fine, and gets us to where we need to be.

IMO, pay more attention to your trucks GVWR and GAWR and that will determine how much trailer you can handle...

"Tow ratings" are fine and dandy, but they don't represent anything obtainable in the real world....

Exceed any of your other trucks ratings first and it won't matter if your "tow rating" is #20,000..... Once you exceed your trucks GVWR and/or GAWR then that's it, you're done....

With that said, I'm guilty of exceeding my trucks GVWR and I'm probably over on my rear GAWR too, but my trailer weighs far less then the weight of my truck, so it tows very well, and I've got 162,000 miles on the truck and have been towing the trailer since 2002.

Once your trailer outweighs your truck, then you are at the mercy of that trailer... Sure, folks do it all the time and have no problems... You will just have to decide what's acceptable or not for your situation...

Good luck!

Mitch

My GVWR is 7200lbs this trailer with options should be in the 6500lb area from what KZ says. Im wondering if the seller will just let me hook it up and see how it does?

The trailer also has a GVWR of #10,000.... Weight adds up fast and while you probably won't get to 10k, 8k would not be too far off I'd say....

Yes, your truck will tow it... How comfortable it tows is totally subjective to individual taste.. For me, it would be too much. For others, they might not even know it's there.....

See if you can do a 'test tow' and decide from there.
