trans temp while towing at highway speed?
trans temp while towing at highway speed?
I have a 01 F150 with alot of mods (see sig), I have been towing our 6000+LB travel trailer for over a year now most ever weekend during season. My question is when I'm on highway at 55-65MPH my trans temp is 180, if I'm in bumper to bumper traffic my temp is 150, I thought the trans generated more heat before converter lockup ? Does anyone see these same temps ? I have the Troyer trans cooler and my temp probe is in the blank fitting near the pan.
Thanks, Craig

Mine depends on the outside temps for the most part.... If it's less then 60* outside, my hwy towing temps are around 150* and my stop and go is 180*.
If the outside temps are greater then 60* up to over 90*, my hwy temp is no more then 180* and stop and go will go to 210* at the most...
My sensor is in the trans output line, just before the rad cooler, so it's seeing the temps after the TC.
I've only got a #5000 trailer, but I'm also only using the stock cooler... I've also got an aftermarket water temp gauge, and it is pretty consistant in the 180*-195* range as well....
My guess is that with your sensor in the test port, that is a 'dead end' part of the fluid flow, so when it's running at the rpms of hwy running, it's getting more flow and in stop and go, it's not as much flow, so you are just seeing the temp of 'static' fluid??? I don't have a clue really, but that's just my theory based on absolutly nothing!!
I've had my gauges for over 4 years and it's always been consistant.. Lower temps on the hwy and higher temps in stop and go.... And that's towing or running empty...
