Will a Lightning haul 5000#?

Maybe the answer is obvious. Being an F150 and all, and it's sure got the HP and the rear gear, but I would still like to get a knowledgable answer.

I'm thinking of hauling a 3200# car and maybe 1800# of trailer and gear.

TIA,

Bill

Ask the lightning guys. I beleive it will do it. The biggest thing you have to worry about is the suspension. It's not designed to take the weight of the regular f150's I believe. Again, ask in the lightning forum, they'll tell you.

I think the L is rated to tow 5000 lbs, I would guess that the limiting factor is the tires, being as that they're not really truck tires,

I have read some where on here about them not towing a lot of #'s because of the boost with the sup-charger. I would check with the L guys.

If he's running some crazy amount of boost, then yes, I'd be worried too, but more about the transmission. If its stock or near stock, you should be fine, but keep an eye on the transmission and install a tranny temp gauge.

Welcome Bill! There are many posts with photos in the archives of Lightnings towing. It will be faster to do a search in the "Lightning" section for "trailer", "towing", etc. You will quickly be able to compare opinions based on various years, mods and tunes.

I had a friend tow similiar weight (~4,000 lbs, 1500lb trailer, 2500lb car) with his near stock Lightning, he had no complaints at all other than burning premium at 10-12mpg.
