best brake controller
I can't believe no one's chimed in on this. On the various trailer forums this is about as incendiary a topic as which motor oil is best.
I use a Tekonsha Prodigy in my rig - it's the simplest and most flexible controller I could find last spring. There are cheaper controllers out there, but the price range between cheap and expensive seems to be less that $100. I don't know why anyone would by a $70 controller that needs a ton of adjusting and tweaking when they could spend another $50 for one that can be taken from rig to rig simply by un-plugging without manual adjustment of any kind. If/when I upgrade my trailer, the same controller can handle it without any modifications.
I only paid about $110 for my Prodigy - I hunted around the various discount RV parts sites for the best price.

IMO the best is brakesmart. Very expensive but gives true poportional braking as it connects to the master cylinder. 497.95 tax shipping and everything. Prodigey is second best, but it doesn't compare to brakesmart. Apples to oranges.
While I'm sure the other brands mentioned are very good, I would vote for the Prodigy too.... If you tow every day, then one of the other's would probably be a good choice, but for a once a month deal, then the Prodigy can't be beat for $$ and ease of use..... And it works really good too!

Another vote for the Prodigy. Works great...only orientation you have to get right is to have it square with the truck, doesn't care about the vertical angle, just the horizontal...front of the unit needs to roughly parallel to the front of the truck. I've had absolutely no problems with mine.
