Adding Trans Temp. Gauge ??
Adding Trans Temp. Gauge ??
Wanting to install a Transmission tempuature gauge in my 2004 5.4 Super Crew. Have anyone of You done this, and what do You recommend. Do these kits wire into the vehicles wiring (splice in) or is the sensor mount to the pan like older styles had a magnet onto the pan.
Thank You for any ideas.

Not specific on the '04, but 'in general', you buy the gauge type of your choice (electric or mechanical) and the brand of your choice.
You will get the correct sensor with the gauge. Along with various adapters if you go the electric route.
You then put the sensor in either of several locations.... You can splice it into the trans output line, or the input line. Tap into the pan. Install into the test port on the trans itself...
Personnally, I installed mine on the trans output line up front and spliced into the rubber hose part of the line. I had to purchase additional hardware to make the splice, but I just picked it up from Home Depot in the plumbing dept....
Most go with the test port location however. You just unscrew a little plug, and temp sensor should thread right in. Tons of posts on the location and process for that procedure.
I mounted mine on the A piller in the cab. I got a dual one and also added a water temp gauge. If you have the driver side 'grab bar', then I don't know if a pod will work....
