trailer angle & height question...

Hey guys I have a little 12 ft aluminum fishing boat with a trolling motor that I am towing (not a lot of weight at all). The boat trailer is small too (just big enough for the boat). I have a 2000 F150 supercab 4X4 with a 5.4. My ball hitch is fixed to the rear step bumper and when I hook the trailer up it sits upward at an angle because of the height of the truck's bumper. I was looking into maybe purchasing a step bumper receiver (bolts right under and onto the step bumper) to try to lower the ball down. I have only towed with it one time and it seemed to do OK but I was wondering the dangers of towing at an angle like this with a bumper ball hitch setup like I am using. I dont want to spend a lot of money on a full receiver that is why I was looking into the step bumper receiver. Do you guys think that I should try a receiver or stick with the ball and continue towing at an angle?
Thanks a lot in advance!

The step bumper receiver should be fine for such a light load. I had a light weight utility trailer that I leveled up to my hitch height by extending the spring shackles, reversed them actually and picked up 6-7 inches. Just another possibility
