Tow package
Tow package
I have an 01 SuperCrew with the 5.4 3.55 LS with the factory tow package. Would someone please confirm for me that the tow package includes: a class three frame mounted hitch, pre wired for brake controller, tranny cooler and a larger radiator. Did I forget anything and is the radiator a three core? I have a Coleman pop up that I am going to toe in three weeks for the first time. Is the round factory socket designed to charge the camper battery while I am in transit? I appreciate any answers that you have to offer. Thanks Magoo
If you have the towing package, you should have the 7 pin connector, you should have the relay for charging your battery. To be sure, look at the diagram for relay location at the top of the towing message board. Then check your "power box" under the hood for the relay. You may or may not need a brake controller depending on your tent trailer. Some have brakes. Many do not.

It may or may not be a two core.

Magoo,
I have a 2001 Supercrew with the Trailer package but with the 4.6 engine. I have no problems towing a 2001 Coleman Utah. I have the anti-sway control as I noticed fishtailing when pulling at highway speeds in excess of 60 mph. The 7-pin harness will supply you with the power to charge the battery at the front of trailer if the dealer has installed it properly. As mentioned in another post, a relay is required.
I also have a brake controller on my truck just for piece of mind. I'm a pretty good driver, its the other guy I worry about. I average better mileage when towing than when the truck is empty, I usually get about 16 - 20 mpg when towing and about 15 - 18 when empty. I sometimes have a lead foot. You shouldn't have any problems with your setup.
Good Luck
