Brake controller

I borrowed a friends car trailer to tow my car to a car show and when I plugged in my brake controller it didnt work. I have a factory connector wired into the controller so I just plug in and go. Any suggestions on why it doesnt power up?I have used his trailer before with my controller and it worked then.Last time I used my trailer before it was stolen it worked fine. I was blowing fuses for running lights but I had a short somewhere in my trailer.Any help is appreciated.

Check the relay fuses for the brakes.

maybe you figured it out by now. i just discovered this towing board. anyway, there are many variables here. could be wiring, bad ground, blown fuse, brakes gone bad on trailer, could be on trailer could be on truck. get a tester and check volts at wiring harness where it connects to trailer. if i remember correctly, you'll probably see a constant 12 volts coming to the brake even when it's not on, however, there is no amps coming too it until you hit the brake. so to test you need to test with something that will draw a load like a 12 volt automotive style bulb. work up or back from there.... good luck

Thanks I did all of that already and its a bad controller. I would have thought that the controller would have lasted longer than 3 years

it happens. hmmm. make sure the hot wire coming from the brake to the controller is getting good connection. the scotch locks they give you with the controllers don't always make a good connection.

I bought a new Prodigy brake controller and used it for the first time last weekend. I was REALLY impressed with the capabilities of this unit. I never felt so safe pulling my Cobra to a show than with this controller. If anyone needs a new brake controller I would highly recomend you buy this controller over any other.Just my 2 cents
