How do I determine "towing package"

I bought a used 2004 F-150 XLT Screw 4x4. I've searched the forums and I guess I can't come up with the right terms to search for to figure it out.

Anyhow, how do you know if you have the towing package or a partial towing package?

I can't tell if the radiator is any larger since I don't have anything to compare it to. I know it couldn't get any wider or taller.

There's a small cooler under the front of the truck that I traced back to the power steering. In front of the Radiator down low there's another aluminum type fin cooler that I'm guessing is a transmission cooler? There's a line going from/to that smaller cooler and into the radiator. I had a hard time, in the brief time I spent, tracing that line around.

So is this the standard setup without any towing options or what?

Hello goslow and welcome to the site! Does your truck have the 5.4? It sounds like you have the transmission cooler, what about the factory reciever hitch? If you have the hitch and large round trailer light plug then you do have the factory tow pkg. Good luck and enjoy ur ride!

This is for a 2005, but it's probably the same for 2004

Trailer Tow Package $350.00

- Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver
- 7-Pin Wiring Harness
- Heavy Duty 72 Amp Battery
- Upgraded Radiator and Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler (Requires 4.6L V8 or 5.4L 3V V8 Engine; Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler only w/4.2L V6 A/T)
- Optional Reverse Sensing System

So, the easiest way to tell is if it has the receiver and the 7 pin connector on it. Got those two items and it's not aftermarket, then you have the Tow Package....

I've got the 4.6L. I don't have a hitch or the 7-pin round harness under the bumper, only the flat 4 pin.

I had a similar situation with my '99 ranger. It had the optional oil cooler etc. but no hitch...

I bought the '99 ranger used, one year old with the smaller V6, and it was previously a rental. Same thing for my '04 F-150. I'm not sure if the rental companies can order these things new with some code for a partial towing package or maybe they can just order the larger cooling capabilities...

It sounds like you get the aux trans cooler as standard equipment with the 4.6 or the 5.4.

It's just if you get the package, they are "upgraded".... For the trans cooler, that probably just means it's a bit taller (has more stacked plates then standard) and the rad is probably a two core instead of a single core. The rad would be the same physical size on the outside, maybe thinner however.....
