Which truck to get and help

Ok Im about to come home from Iraq and I have saved up 6000-7000 dollars for a truck. I need something to tow my mustang and a open trailer from Texas to SC. Then tow it a few times a year. As well as I also have to tow a 64 buick something in the summer sometoime from Ok to SC but we are going to use a wheel dolly for that.
What series or type of truck should I be looking for. Someone told me that their 4.2 with manual did a ok job but that sounds far fetched.
What should I also get with the truck as what hitch or what do I need. Im new to the game thanks

A bit of a "broad" question, but first I'd like to say thanks and congratulations for serving our country and returning home from Iraq..

You should be able to find a decent F150 with a 5.4 for that price range. It'll have to be around a '97 or '98 however. Might find a 4.6 for cheaper, but you will want the 5.4 for towing 3-4k lbs around with and not be working the engine as hard.......

Now, I'm not saying the 4.6 is bad for towing, but it just has less power then the 5.4 and it will work harder for a particular load when compared to the 5.4....

Make sure whatever truck you get has a frame mounted hitch already on it. If it's from the factory, then even better, because that means it came with the "tow package" and that includes additional items for towing as well.

Getting an F250 would be better, but that kinda money is not going to get much that way..... It'll either have tons of miles on it or it won't have much of an engine.

This really only scratches the surface however..... Lots more to consider and know. It would take pages to cover even half of it all!

Good luck!

Mitch
